Mariah Carey;

Product Description
-------------------
Rainbow, Mariah Carey's seventh studio long-player, is something like a concept album. Its theme is the various stages of the "emotional roller coaster," as she puts it, of her divorce and subsequent rebound. Carey continues to walk the line between streetwise hip-hop soul and adult-contemporary acceptability, with the former not surprisingly offering most of the disc's high points. "Heartbreaker," the first single, is a likeable piece of bubble-gum R&B with grit borrowed from guest Jay-Z; the remix, with Missy Elliott, Da Brat, and DJ Clue on board, is a different enough piece of work that its appearance only a few cuts after the original version doesn't jar. Another groove-intensive track, the Snoop Dogg duet "Crybaby," is so sly that one hopes the two collaborate again. Of course, it wouldn't be a Mariah record without at least one major lapse in taste; here that bill is filled with a cover of Phil Collins's melodramatic "Against All Odds." --Rickey Wright

Mariah Carey has some excellent albums and singles all throughout her career but what sets her apart from many is her soulful heartfelt singing, lyrics, alongside classy elegant styles. Each album offers something strikingly different. The reason I enjoyed this album is for the fact I could relate to most of the songs. The rainbow artwork is a reflection of the positiveness, the happiness, and the joys that come from life experiences after the difficult journeys!

When you first hear the beginning there is slow mellow songs with the opening track featuring Jay-Z "Heartbreaker". While it's difficult to be with a heartbreaker sometimes it's hard to let go. The music will take you there and reminisce the times when that special someone had a part of you that perhaps you got lost in the moment of passion. The rap is definitely great and Mariah does a great job in her singing. From there afterwards the songs take paths of love ballads, emotional highs and lows, and even fun mid/up-tempo tracks.

Other featured artist aside Jay-Z -to name a few- are: Usher, Da Brat, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, and Joe. From my personal tastes, this type of addition definitely adds to the hip-hop mood and enhances the listening experience.

One of my favorite ballads would be "After Tonight" since the moods are of passion, romance, and an uncontrollable desire for someone special. "After tonight will you remember?... Time and time again so patiently I've waited for this moment to arrive." This would be the song to light candles and get special with that person you've fantasized about. The style is slow, mellow R&B.

"Against All Odds" (Take A Look At Me Now) (Phil Collins Song) is sung by Mariah in a very striking way. Her voice shines in clarity, pitch levels, and pleasant sounding styles. I found this to be an excellent song to add. The bonus disc has this song too.

Another favorite song would have to be "Crybaby" featuring Snoop Dogg. The way Snoop raps in between is very appealing and catchy. When someone suffers a break-up it's always refreshing to have a nice person to help you just wipe the tears away. This song is fun, warm, embracing and playful to forget that person who did you wrong -suppressing the sadness. My favorite part would be, "Ok so it's 5 am and I can't sleep I took some medicine but it's not working.... but I finally changed my number, got a different pager..."

Aside the other songs I can mention for paragraphs on end, the overall feel is of letting go the sadness, weathering the storm, and new beginnings! If you are into up-tempos highly energetic beats or club dance oriented styles then this may not be your top choice. This has mellow/mid-tempo R&B styles of laying back, getting your love moods flowing high, and forgetting your problems. There are some excellent rap hip-hop portions that are a bit faster for fans of featured artists or pop. Overall, I recommend this for fans of Mariah, R&B lovers, and romantics at heart!Be;

This definitely isn't her strongest work, but this CD will always have a special place in my heart because it was my first CD of hers that I owned. It was going to go in the trash or something until I took it off of someone's hands and I'm glad I did!

The best songs here are probably:

Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)
Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) An excellent cover, IMHO (in my honest opinion)
Crybaby
Thank God I Found You
Petals

She doesn't overdo it with special guests here. I mean there are 4 but I think that it was still balanced enough to not drag the album down. I wouldn't fully recommend this over some of her other CDs though. Buy the following ones before this one:

Daydream
Butterfly
Emotions
